For WvW you will need to play 16-18 hours per week for 3.6 weeks just to get 6 pieces of ascended armor. If you spend the time framing you can at least buy 2 Living world seasons. The same for fractal T4. You need a lot of time to learn fractals and gold spend on gear before you can actually generate gold.
Fractals t4 is by far the best way to accumulate miscellaneous armour/weapon boxes without crafting. However, their drop rate may be the highest in the game from t4 fractals, but it is still RNG, of what you get, when, and what stats you get. Crafting is the most effective way of obtaining ascended armour and weapons in the stats you want.

Keep in mind that ascended trinkets are actually much bigger upgrade than armor. Easiest way to get these will be from living world season 3 maps so I would suggest getting that. GW2 crafts is a good site for grafting guides. For the first set of weapons and armor crafting will be the best way to go. and you want the professions up early anyway.
I think have maybe 7 clovers. Legendary and ascended have the same stats. The difference is that legendary can freely switch stats whenever while also having a cool little animation when equipped. Go for ascended for right now as legendary is more of a long term goal to do in the background instead of focusing on.
